Welcome to Riverside

The Greenwich neighborhood of Riverside is so named because the Mianus River forms its western border down to Long Island Sound.

Largely residential, Riverside is densely populated, with roughly 8,400 people in just over two square miles.

Riverside Avenue is the main thoroughfare, running south from Route 1, Riverside’s only commercial area, and then swinging east toward Old Greenwich. The many winding lanes that break off from the avenue eventually find their way to waterfront outposts, whether on a quiet cove, the open Sound, or the Mianus River.

Housing styles include early-20th-century cottages and colonials, renovated late-1800s ramblers, and palatial custom-designed new construction.

Many commuters walk to the train station, picking up their morning fortification at Ada’s Kitchen and Coffee nearby. In a former post office, Ada’s was for decades a penny candy store. The building was recently renovated and reopened as a takeout place featuring locally roasted coffee, food made from scratch, and, in tribute to its namesake, a penny candy corner.
